POSITION TITLE:    School Support Personnel - METCO

 

REPORTS TO AND EVALUATED BY:    K-12 Director of METCO and Student Engagement/Principal

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Class B, 10 month position. Salary Schedule and benefits according to the LEA - Unit D collective bargaining agreement.

JOB GOAL:

 

Employee assists in providing safe transportation to and from school and provides routine and clerical classroom assistant/duties.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

 

  • Boards bus at first stop on the bus route in the morning and gets off at the last stop in the afternoon.
  • Works cooperatively with the bus driver in maintaining safety on the bus
  • Maintains appropriate student conduct on the bus.
  • Assists students in resolving conflicts which occur on the bus.
  • Assists in distributing information to students on the bus
  • Assists elementary students across major intersections during P.M. drop offs
  • Ensures safe delivery of students to appropriate location and appropriate parties
  • Provides written records of transportation information as deemed necessary by METCO Director or Lexington Public Schools. 
  • Records daily attendance on bus in order to assure that all children dropped off at school in the morning are picked up and returned to Boston in the afternoon or are otherwise accounted for.
  • Supervises METCO children on Family Friends Day when necessary
  • Assist teachers and administrators with clerical duties
  • Provide classroom coverage when necessary
  • Assist teachers in preparation of class materials
  • Monitor recess
  • Monitor cafeteria
  • Perform crosswalk, arrival and dismissal duties
  • Maintain supplies
  • Maintain photo copy equipment
  • Perform copying and laminating duties
  • Answer phones, make phone calls
  • May greet visitors
  • Perform a variety of related duties

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in administrative, clerical, financial or secretarial work, preferably in a school environment, working with children; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification and experience.  

 

Must have knowledge of office management principles and practices, and computer systems, word processing and photocopying. Knowledge of child development.

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with the public, officials and department personnel; ability to work independently in an efficient manner; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain a record keeping systems; ability to operate a telephone and standard office equipment; ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient manner; ability to deal tactfully with disgruntled people. 

 

Skill in operating computers and applicable word processing; excellent customer service skills.  Must have skill in dealing with school age children and behavioral management.
