Position Title:          Student Support Instructor (SSI)
 

FLSA:                        Non-Exempt

 

Reports to:               Building Prinicpal, Classroom Teacher,ABA Coordinator

 

Terms of Employment:   Paraprofessional Staff with benefits according to the LEA Unit C collective bargaining agreement.  36 hours per week.

 

Unit C 18-19 Salary Range

 

The Student Support Instructor (SSI), is responsible for working directly with students who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, implementing individualized academic and behavior programs.  This position provides instruction using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, including discrete trial instruction, task analysis, and naturalistic teaching techniques.  

 

The position may require working in the home setting, where the SSI implements programs to increase appropriate social skills and activities of daily living, and facilitates social interactions when necessary.  The SSI at times may need to attend to the personal needs and safety of students, including escorts, toileting, toilet training, and supervision during lunch.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Classroom experience preferred
  • ABA experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • works directly with students who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • implements individualized academic and behavior programs
  • provides instruction using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), including discrete trial instruction, task analysis, and naturalistic teaching techniques
  • implements student-specific behavior plans to decrease challenging behaviors and increase functional behaviors
  • collects ongoing data and summarizes the data to monitor students’ progress
  • implements programs in the home to increase appropriate social skills and activities of daily living, and facilitates social interactions when necessary
  • models implementation of academic and behavior programs for parents
  • gathers and maintains students’ materials, data sheets, and program notebooks  
  • responsible for any other duties assigned

Sample Elementary Schedule:  

2 days/week: 8:15a-3:30p

1 day/week (Thurs.): 8:15a-3:00p – 2-3 home services

1 day/week: 8:15a-5:30p – 4-5:30 home services

1 day/week: 8:15a-3:45p 

Total: 36 hours/week
